| Description: The Gorge ends, but the rapids do not. Downstream of Door #2 the river leaves the Gorge and the channel becomes choked with car-sized boulders, providing a mile-long stretch of pool-and-drop Class IV. The pioneers of Virgin River running named this section the Whorehouse, for its proximity to Nevada and for the abundance of holes. They named the drops Mono, Rhona, Lola, and Jane. This is Lola. The photo does not show the powerful current that often takes rafts river left of the conglomerate boulder in the foreground, and the swirling eddy that will turn a kayak in a over heartbeat. |
