Description: The fish barrier dam was built to stop red shiners from migrating upstream and so protect the endangered native wouldfin minnow population. This is a must-portage stop on the run from Bloomington to the rest area in the Gorge. Carry or lift over on river right. At 5,000 cfs, it forms a perfect river-wide surf wave. The dam is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile downstream of where the high-voltage power lines cross the river canyon, about 1 mile downstream of the start of the Gorge, and 8 miles downstream of Bloomington.
